at trefinos,
ongoing improvement
is a state of mind
Our analysis and control methods respond to the highest demands and set the guidelines to ensure the final quality of the product. Transforming our knowledge and experience into value is the best way we know of offering top quality service to our customers.
Trefinos is committed to ensuring that the needs and expectations of the customers are converted into requirements, and the requirements are met with the aim of gaining their complete satisfaction. Our management system, aimed at continuous improvement in the quality of our products and satisfaction of our customers, counts on the support and involvement of all the workers in our organisation.
Trefinos was the first manufacturer of cork stoppers for sparkling wines to obtain the quality certification for its production in keeping with the ISO 9001:2008 standard. This can be clearly seen by the commitment to quality that the company has always had.
This certification is part of our constant commitment to ongoing improvement at a technical and human level. From the extraction of the raw material through to the shipment of the finished cork stopper, every stage in the production process is subjected to a rigorous inspection plan of all the parts of which it is made up.
The complete production process, which starts at Augusta Cork and finishes at Trefinos, follows a strict protocol of analysis and control, as can be seen in the following diagram:

The final quality of a cork stopper depends on the type of cork used and the correct application of the control standards and processes during the preparation phases of the raw material and its transformation until the end product is obtained.
Systecode is the first accreditation system for cork stopper manufacturing companies and guarantees that all the stages of production are carried out in keeping with standards of control. CELIÈGE, the European Cork Confederation, an organisation that represents all the cork producing associations, publishes the International Code of Cork Stopper Manufacturing Practices. To ensure that companies apply the recommendations of the code in their production processes, Systecode has been established, an accreditation system by means of international experts from the Bureau Veritas organisation, that verify compliance with the requirements in matters of processes, management of resources and storage and transport.
In this way, companies which, like Trefinos, are accredited by Systecode can offer their customers the guarantee that their products are produced in keeping with the quality standards.

ISO is the largest worldwide publisher of international standards.
One of them, the ISO 9001, designs a set of standards on continuous quality management: it sets out the way in which a company operates, its quality standards, its delivery deadlines, the efficiency of the service and the search for improvement. Today, Trefinos is certified with the following: ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 22000:2018.

The Forest Stewardship Council® FSC® is an independent, non-governmental organisation, the main objective of which is to promote environmentally suitable forest management, which provides benefits from a social and economically feasible point of view. In other words, it places the same emphasis on social, environmental and industrial aspects. This certification shows Trefinos’ commitment that the long-term environmental, social and economic aspects, as well as the protection of local wildlife, are an intrinsic part of excellence in forest management and it cooperates with wineries that require certification that their cork stoppers come from responsibly managed, sustainable and biodegradable forests.
The certification also contains a programme for identifying cork stoppers manufactured with raw materials from certified forests, which are recyclable, biodegradable and have grown in sustainable forests that are managed responsibly. Trefinos has set up a training programme for the owners of cork oak forests with the aim of encouraging their membership of FSC® certification programmes.

The FSC® certification is backed by numerous environmental organisations, such as WWF, Adena, FAO, SEO-Birdlife, etc.

Trefinos also participates as an active member of the WWF (World Wildlife Fund). The aim of this alliance is to denounce and combat illegal practices in forests in the Mediterranean area and all threatened forests, providing benefits from an economic and social point of view for companies and social groups that depend on the work in these forests.
The mechanisms of action include promoting membership of the FSC and offering support to efforts to promote the use of cork from responsibly managed forests.
